"LIVING WITH AWARENESS"
- 2010 RETREATS

Relax and rejuvenate in a sacred space with great food, wonderful company and the opportunity to discover and practice simple, enjoyable lifestyle tools to improve your  health and wellbeing.

Cari (left) from Anam Yoga and Mary Woolley (right) from Ananda Veda have worked together since 2008 to provide a range of retreats.

The theme of our Ayurveda & Yoga Lifestyle Retreats is Living with Awareness and our intention to you is two-fold.

One is to provide you with the unique opportunity to explore the philosophy of these sister sciences and practice simple, enjoyable lifestyle tools that will enhance your health and wellbeing.  We want you to go home feeling healthier and happier and empowered to bring these simple tools into your life in a way that will work for you.

The second recognises the busyness of daily life and we want to give you a truly nurturing and nourishing experience.  This is time out for you to relax and rejuvenate in a truly sacred space with great food and good company.

The Retreats have been attended by more than 70 people, with 95% rating the retreats as excellent value for money.
The 2010 retreats (listed below) offer you the unique opportunity to explore the ancient wisdom of the sister sciences of Ayurveda & Yoga and discover simple lifestyle tools that will create harmony and optimum health in your life.

Retreat Programme

You are welcome to arrive from 4.30pm on Friday afternoon and dinner is served at 6.30pm.  If possible, we suggest that you arrive in time to settle into your room before dinner.  Two (2) day programmes finish at 3pm on Sunday and three (3) day programmes finish at 3pm on Monday.

Your daily programme during the Retreat is based on an Ayurvedic lifestyle and includes:

  • Morning & evening lifestyle practices to start and finish your day.
  • Daily yoga practices - this may be one or two practices a day and encompass asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing practices), chanting and meditation.  No previous yoga experience is required.
  • Delicious organic vegetarian meals prepared in accordance with the principles of Ayurvedic nutrition.  There is also the opportunity to spend time in the kitchen and have some hands on experience.
  • Workshops to explore the philosophy and practices of Ayurveda and Yoga.
  • Time out for you to explore, reflect or catch-up on some sleep or just hang out around the fire and chat.
  • A range of traditional Ayurveda preparations to taste, smell and apply throughout the weekend.
  • The opportunity to browse through a comprehensive range of Ayurveda and Yoga books.
  • Special movie nights - especially in winter, there's nothing nicer than watching a movie around a fire with a blanket and a spiced milk.
  • Evening meditation practice in the chapel - a very special experience.

You will also receive a comprehensive information booklet on Ayurveda & Yoga and a gift bag of goodies to support your Ayurvedic Lifestyle during the Retreat.

Meals and Recipes

All retreat meals are vegetarian and prepared and served in accordance with the principles of Ayurvedic nutrition.  Wherever possible the ingredients are organic or biodynamic and sourced from local producers.  For example we collect our freshly picked vegetables and organic unhomoginised milk from a local market farm and dairy on the way to the Monastery.

To help you understand how to eat well for your constitution, at each meal we provide a brief description of what we are eating and how it suits the various constitutions.  There will also be the opportunity to spend some time in the kitchen for some hands on experience in Ayurvedic cooking.

The food is a very important component of our retreats and usually a favourite with participants for a number of reasons.  In Ayurveda food is medicine.  The kitchen has been described as the hospital and the Mother as the Doctor.  When you eat food that suits your constitution, looks good, smells tantalising, tastes great and is light and easy to digest you can't help going home feeling better than when you arrived.

According to Julie, who has been to three of our retreats "it is the only place where you can eat and eat and eat and lose weight".
